20 Most Amazing Beaches in Sicily

The beaches in Sicily need no introduction: they are simply wonderful locations all to be experienced. If you are looking for a beach holiday, then Sicily is the holiday destination for you.
For those of you arriving by plane, the view from the window will certainly attract your interest and curiosity as you get welcomed by the stunning beauty of the Gulf of Castellammare if you land in Palermo or from the magnificent Ionian coast if you arrive in Catania. The 1500 km of Sicilian coasts offer solutions for all your needs.
I have prepared a list of 20 best beaches of Sicily (in my opinion) to help you decide where to book your accommodation and where to fly to.

1. Mondello, Palermo

Palermo’s famous beach, Mondello is the ideal place to combine nature and history. The sand is fine and the sea is crystal clear, but the surroundings are also not to be missed, with Art Nouveau villas and numerous archaeological sites not far from Palermo city centre. I would avoid Mondello if you can in July-August as it does get very busy. This is an Ideal place for families with children.

2. Tonnara di Scopello, Trapani


Here the sea is a beauty that will leave you speechless, blue, clear and pristine. It is accessed from the tonnara, paying the entrance fee (4 euros) and here you are in one of the most beautiful bays in Sicily.
In the tonnara there is a diving service, for diving enthusiasts it is an opportunity not to be missed. It is also possible to book a boat trips to enjoy the view of the tonnara and the faraglioni from the sea to the full with an absolutely privileged perspective.
Given the small and intimate size of the beach it would be preferable to visit it in less touristy periods avoiding the central weeks of August to be able to appreciate its beauty.

3. Cala Capreria, Zingaro Nature Reserve


Cala Capreria is a beach in the Riserva dello Zingaro, a wonderful place to explore and photograph. It is a beach of sand and pebbles, with fantastic colors, it is ideal for families as is not too far from the entrance of the nature reserve.

4. San Vito Lo Capo, Trapani (ideal for families)

Crystal clear waters, gently sloping down towards the open sea and practically absent currents, make San Vito Lo Capo beach one of the ideal destinations for those who want to spend a wonderful beach holiday in Sicily. 
The beach of San Vito Lo Capo is also safe, loved by the little ones who immediately feel at ease and by the parents who can enjoy the quiet days at the beach. 
Instead, the most experienced and demanding swimmers can enjoy long swims offshore, where the seabed is a real spectacle for divers.

5. Cala Rossa, island of Favignana 

Located in the north-eastern area of ​​the island of Favignana this beach is not sandy, but is ideal for relaxation. It is a bay of rocks and completely flat rocks, which make access easy and pleasant. Staying on this stretch of coast is easy for every type of swimmer, including families with children, without regretting the comfort of the sand.

6. Scala dei turchi, Agrigento

The Scala dei Turchi is a rocky beach (cliff) that rises above the sea along the coast of Realmonte, in the province of Agrigento.
Over time it has become a tourist attraction due to the uniqueness of the cliff, which is white in color and has a peculiar shape, and due to the popularity acquired by the TV series of the Inspector Montalbano. 

7. La Marinella Beach, Porto Empedocle

La Marinella Beach is located not far from the town of Porto Empedocle, in the west part of the town.
The beach is very wide and presents a background formed by fine golden sand, bathed by clear water with an intense color. 
The sunsets over the sea are a different show every night.

8. Sampieri Beach, Ragusa Province

Sampieri is a small fraction of Scicli in the province of Ragusa. It  has very ancient origins and today is a picturesque seaside village with stone houses and paved streets almost close to the coast. The Beach of Sampieri mostly composed of fine and golden sand covers a coastal stretch of about 3 km. Sampieri has a restaurant right on the beach where you can eat fresh fish caught the night before but you can also enjoy a simple cocktail accompanied by fresh oysters and prawns, over-crowded with young people, with a nice atmosphere and great music.

9. Marina di Modica Beach

The beach of Marina di Modica stretches in the southeastern part of Sicily, near the charming Modica marina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its historic center. 
The beautiful bay on which the town overlooks is surrounded by soft dune formations. 
The beautiful sandy coast with its crystalline and transparent sea, with its seabed sloping down towards the open sea. 
The beach is well equipped and offers many services.

10. Isola delle Correnti Beach, Porto Palo

Isola delle Correnti is a small round island of Sicily, on the Ionian coast, located in the territory of the town of Portopalo.
It is connected to the mainland by an artificial arm, destroyed several times by the waves of the sea. 
When the low tide turns the island into a peninsula , it represents the southern end of the Sicilian island, geographically further south than Tunisi.

11. San Lorenzo Beach, Marzamemi

The San Lorenzo beach is one of the most important and well-known beaches in the area. 
It is located 5 km from Marzamemi, inside the Vendicari Nature Reserve and represents an unspoiled paradise.
The sand is golden and particularly fine, crystal clear and warm sea makes it an ideal place for families with children.
There is also the presence of equipped lidos and parking areas to make the arrival at the beach easier.

12. Vendicari Beach, Noto 

Sicily hides a myriad of wonderful corners and this beach seems almost to be hidden in the heart of the Vendicari Nature Reserve. 
Fine golden sand and a beautiful natural environment, composed of dunes and lagoons, make this beach the ideal habitat for a variety of flora and fauna.

13. Calamosche, Noto 

It is a little paradise, to say the least, inside the Faunistic Oasis of Vendicari, with a wonderful sea that offers intense and vivid colors. 
You will not resist the temptation for a swim. Nearby there are natural caves where you can admire a varied marine fauna.
In addition to the golden and fine sand, there are also two rocky headlands that make the sea always calm and relaxing.

14. Fontane Bianche Beach, Siracusa

The beach of Fontane Bianche is a very famous beach characterized by shallow and warm water in the summer months. The sea is crystal clear so that you can see the little fish that swim near the shore. The beach of Fontane Bianche is both free and private.
On the private beach you can rent chairs, umbrellas and there are also several bars and restaurants.
The free beaches of Fontane Bianche are quite large and easy to access and here too it is possible to find bars, restaurants and services.

15. La Playa Beach, Catania

La Playa is a very long and wide golden sand beach, which stretches for 18 km on the southern outskirts of Catania, along the eastern coast of Sicily, and includes several marine villages. 
The succession of clubs, beaches, campsites, water parks, tourist villages, hotels and summer camps for children has made the Playa the most popular beach in the province of Catania, both during the day and at night, when it becomes the destination of summer nightlife.
The high concentration of services makes it the ideal place for all those who want to enjoy a holiday of relaxation and comfort and especially for families with children.

16. Riviera dei Ciclopi Beach, Catania

The Riviera dei Ciclopi, north of Catania, is a splendid stretch of coastline that has recently become a lively summer resort destination.
The beaches are mostly rocky, but perfect for swimming, and the wide choice of restaurants, bars, nightclubs and hotels offers many alternatives to spend your free time.

17. Isola bella Beach, Taormina


The beach of Isola Bella in Taormina, along the coast of eastern Sicily, is certainly one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in Sicily
The pebble beach, which can be accessed by a staircase, is framed by high cliffs that plummet over a turquoise and crystalline sea. 
The rocky bottoms give the waters beautiful colors that vary according to the hours of the day.
The beach of Isola Bella is partly managed by two lidos, while the east area is free and ideal for those who like to dive from the rocks or snorkeling.

18. San Gregorio Beach, Capo D`Orlando

The San Gregorio Beach in Capo d’Orlando represents the most evocative and enjoyable part of the coast characterized by few bays and small ravines. 
It has a long and accessible beach in many points of the coastline.

19. Lido di Cefalù, Cefalu`

This place is one of my absolute favourite. Cefalu’ coastline is a kilometer and a half long, recognisable by its famous golden sand, the crystal clear water that gets deeper and deeper as you go along. 
Needless to describe it in words, the view is absolutely fascinating: in the distance you can see the two spires of the Cathedral, the fortress (La Rocca) and the small marina to the side, a fascinating and very popular view.

20. Spiaggia dei Conigli, island of Lampedusa


Considered by many the best beach in the world! 
The bay of the Isola dei Conigli is part of the Lampedusa Island Nature Reserve and is therefore strongly protected.
It can only be accessed during daylight hours, from 08:30 to 19:30, in order to safeguard the nesting of sea turtles (which usually happens at night, in fact).
